Inspired by a 1931 Art Deco necklace by Jakob Bengel, the Cleopatra necklace is   primarily worked in the designers adaptation of Peyote stitch for the Czech Mates two-hole, brick shaped bead. This necklace has a supple drape and a natural curve worked into it with a combination of ladder stitch and peyote stitch.  The necklace is comprised of brick ‘teeth’ worked diagonally. Construction is begun in the center. You will finish the right side and then go back to the center to complete the left side.  Six ‘teeth’ on each side yields a 16 inch necklace. Seven ‘teeth’ on each side yields an eighteen inch necklace. The necklace works up quickly and is a delight to wear.
